Autism CARES Act of 2019
Passed by the U.S. Senate

Great news! Here at Color Me Mozart, we’re so excited to join the celebration of the U.S. Senate passing the Autism CARES Act of 2019! This extends support for autism research, services and training benefiting individuals and families affected by autism.

Next, the bill will go to the President’s desk for his signature. Autism CARES is the foundation of the federal government’s efforts around autism, serving as the primary source of federal funding for autism research, services, training and monitoring.

According to the IACC (Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee), The Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education and Support (CARES) Act of 2019 reauthorizes and expands the provisions first introduced in the Combating Autism Act of 2006. The Autism CARES Act ensures support for research, services, prevalence tracking, and other government activities. The new legislation increases the annual budget on autism efforts to $369.7 million through 2024. New provisions expand the focus of government activities to include the entire lifespan of people on the autism spectrum and require a report on health and well-being. This legislation also reauthorizes and expands the Interagency Autism Coordinating Committee (IACC).

This is such great news and we should all be celebrating. Most importantly, funding for autism research, services and training is critical to providing support for children and families that are affected by autism. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in raising awareness of autism and special needs to the public. Therefor, the more we all know, the more we can be a part of the support system that our children need.
