Why Don’t My Kids Practice Music?
You may be asking yourself, “Why don’t my kids practice music?” There’s a million different reasons why kids don’t want to practice music. However, in today’s episode, we’ll discuss some effective approaches to giving your kids the best chance to be excited about music. Having a practice plan is key.
What many of us don’t know is that when it comes to practicing music, we need structure. The key is to not let your kids know there’s structure! lol! A successful music session needs some key elements to keep them engaged.
Key Elements of a Great Music Session
- A welcome song
- Review of learned concepts
- New lesson material
- Goodbye or transition song
If you cover all these elements for each music session, you can be sure that your kids will stay engaged. More importantly, you will have a great time as well. Don’t underestimate the importance of your kids seeing you have a great time as well.
I have met a lot of parents that have less-than-great memories of learning music themselves. My typical response is that of sadness. The reason is I can’t understand how some teachers suck all the beauty and fun out of learning music. It’s simply a tragedy.
The goal here is retain the joy of music while offering real music education.
Conclusion
Learning music can be one of two things. It can be a fun, relaxing, educational part of each day or a chore. Make sure to keep learning music a fun and enjoyable part of your family experience.
